Three little words, “I am pregnant,” stir up all kinds of emotions. If you and your girlfriend had no intentions of getting pregnant, those words can cause panic. We know you’re concerned about the next step.

Most insurance policies only cover legal dependents, such as a wife or children. Check with your specific insurance provider to see what they offer.

Do You Know the Risks of Abortion Pills?

Abortion is illegal in Arkansas unless necessary to save the pregnant woman’s life in a medical emergency. The abortion pill method is also known as a medical or chemical abortion because it usually uses two drugs to end a pregnancy.

The FDA does not recommend ordering abortion drugs online because they highly regulate the first drug, mifepristone, in the abortion pill regimen.

Many online companies offering abortion drugs are from foreign countries and do not have the same regulations as the United States. You can’t guarantee the quality of the drug.

The Mayo Clinic lists the following as risks you and your girlfriend should be aware of if considering the abortion pill:

  • An incomplete abortion—when the body doesn’t release all the pregnancy tissue in the uterus, potentially causing an infection
  • An ongoing pregnancy if the procedure doesn’t work
  • Heavy and prolonged bleeding
  • Infection
  • Fever
  • Digestive symptoms such as an upset stomach

Does She Know How Far Along She Is?

The FDA approves the use of abortion drugs through 10 weeks of pregnancy only. If a woman is too far along in her pregnancy, the Mayo Clinic recommends she not attempt a medical abortion.

There are also other health risks you both need to be aware of.
